Type of sample:
Prolific participants aged 18 to 74 years (M = 39.26, SD = 11.22) awaiting an uncertain event.
Recruitment information:
Participants were recruited on Prolific. Participants were required to be based in the UK so all participants were in the same time zone for sending out daily surveys each day. Participants were required to have an uncertain event coming up in their life. The event had to be somewhat significant (determined by a rating of at least 10 on the 0-100 significance scale) and resolve in at least 2 weeks (but less than 3 months) time.
Incentives:
Participants received the following reimbursement £3.5 for completing the baseline survey, £0.7 for completing each daily diary (up to £9.80 in total) and £2 bonus at the end of the study for completing at least 13 daily diaries. Participants who completed the follow up survey were reimbursed £1.
Exclusions:
17 participant were excluded for not completing the baseline. 2 failed baseline attention checks. 6 were excluded for failing over 80% of the daily survey attention checks and 29 were excluded due to technical issues. 38 participants were exclude who indicated at baseline that they expected their uncertain event to resolve sooner than 2 weeks or later than 3 months. 174 daily surveys were removed due to participants completed the surveys in less than 2 minutes.
